Independent State
Thal Meren
Thal Meren sits on the western coastal edge of the Vethraan continent, close enough to Vethara that its cultural and religious roots are undeniable, independent enough that it has never been formally absorbed. The proximity is both an asset and a constraint: Thal Meren benefits from association with Vethara's stability and spiritual authority, but is perpetually conscious of its smaller neighbour status.
Where Vethara turns inward, Thal Meren looks outward — maintaining independent trade relationships with Saenn and Calandria that give it an economic flexibility Vethara's self-sufficiency does not require. Its small size and coastal position have made pragmatism a survival trait across generations of governance.
Thal Meren applies Vethara's shared cultural inheritance more loosely, adapting spiritual practice to the rhythms of maritime trade rather than agricultural ritual. The relationship between the two nations is respectful and close, but it is not without the occasional tension of a smaller partner asserting its distinctiveness.
Current Political Status
